Before Bargen, this was home — and the training loop out from Alloa is still the base every UK ride on this site is measured against.
This is the UK counterpart to Bargen — the base near Alloa, at the foot of the Ochils, that everything else on this page fans out from. Over 50 rides geo-match to the immediate home area alone, most of them the same repeated training loop rather than a place visited once and written up. Unlike Bargen, this stretch of the archive carries a real story running through it: a knee injury that took the best part of two years to sort out.
The repeated route is a roughly 55km circuit out through Dunfermline and back — described on one ride simply as "New Training Ride In Scotland — 85% is offroad gravel so perfect for what I like." It's ridden constantly: lunch rides, afternoon rides, "fat burning rides" between gym sessions, and at least one ride that ended with a lost phone Kevin never saw fall ("Lost my mobile today whilst riding my training route. Sadly I did not see it fall as I was enjoying the weather and the views.").
A running thread through 2023–2024: cruciate ligament trouble that comes up again and again in the ride notes, from "Times have changed and the gym is now my main priority to improve strength and see if a 63 year old can get a six pack. Will still be biking but only..." in May 2023, through to a first ride back after four months off in mid-2024 ("1st decent ride for 6 months. No knee pain.") The two rides built as their own pages below — Killin to Kenmore and Callander to Loch Katrine — both carry this same story.
Not every ride here is solo training — several are logged with Kevin's wife Priska and their dog Lillie: "Dollar trip with Priska & Lillie" in July 2024, and a shorter "Stirling with Priska and Lillie" the following month.
